R2 Audit Training Courses

What is R2?

The R2:2013 (Responsible Recycling) Standard is the latest version of R2. Responsible Recycling standard is planned to help guarantee the quality, transparency, and environmental and social responsibility of R2 Certified recycling or scrap businesses.

Benefits of R2

  • It helps to promote effective and safe recovery and reuse of electronic material and equipment.
  • It protects the downstream control of the recycling chain.
  • It provides guidance on compliance with local and international laws.
  • It reduces environmental and public health risks, thus promoting a green environment.
  • It helps original equipment manufacturers with due diligence for their dying electronics.
  • It promotes public confidence by the certified third-party review.
  • It helps in achieving low insurance costs for recyclers.

What is the need for R2 Audit Training Course?

Internal audits are a vital aspect of certification and are required by several provisions of the R2 Standard. To make internal audits effective, it must be ensured that they are directed by someone with the right competencies. The auditor must have the experience and knowledge that is necessary to understand the R2 Standard’s requirements and to assess whether the organization is meeting those requirements. A person with a managerial role without having such knowledge and experience cannot perform the audit.

An effective internal audit can help avoid conflicts with requirements of the R2 Standard that may cause interruption or revocation of your certification(s). With the help of a competent internal auditor, you can reduce the risk of violations and monetary penalties from regulatory authorities.
Skills of the auditor can be achieved through training, experience, and continuous education. GlenView group endorses that potential R2 internal auditors take GlenView Group’s R2 Audit Training course.

R2 Audit Training Courses

R2 is the Responsible Recycling Standard, the most recent version is R2:2013.  This standard applies mainly to the electronics recycling industry across the world.  R2 certified companies demonstrate to external and interested parties that it takes appropriate measures within the company to protect the environment, employee and public health & welfare and data security. These companies are mainly broken down into the following sectors: Recycler, Refurbisher, IT Asset Deposition, Broker, Collector, Shredder, Precious Metals Processor.  Companies that are R2 registered demonstrate that they take into account the practise of ensuring safe and responsible recycling in both upstream supply and downstream production and distribution.

In order to become R2 certified the company must already have in place an environmental, health & safety management system. This can be certified to a combination of different standards that include both an environmental standard and a health & safety standard, for example:

  • ISO14001 (environmental) & ISO18001OHAS – to now be replaced by ISO45001 (Health and safety)
  • Recycling Industry Operating Standard (RIOS) (Environmental)
The company must be able to demonstrate that it continually improves its environmental and health and safety performance.   This can be demonstrated by setting clear goal objectives to be met throughout the year and by reviewing these targets periodically.

An auditor who wishes to audit R2 must have extensive knowledge of these relevant environmental and health & safety standards as a foundation for the certification of R2 provisions.  This type of industry is global and auditors also need to demonstrate competency on the applicable legal requirements in relation to geographical location and local legal compliances.  Auditors must also be mindful that this standard covers the downstream processes of the facility and must allow time to cover these aspects within their audit, a task unique to R2.

GlenView Group Inc can provide R2 auditor training for anyone wishing to work within this electronic recycling environment. Industrial consulting experts within our team have the ability to train you to audit R2, although it has more complexity than a regular lead auditor role we are confident we can provide you with the competent training necessary for your lead auditor role.
